The scenic location of Bad Iburg on the sunny southern edge of the Teutoburg Forest was considered so liveable by the prince-bishops of Osnabrück that they chose this place as their residence for 600 years. The town's landmark, the castle built in the 11th century, can be seen from afar. Sophie Charlotte, who later became the first Queen of Prussia, was born here in 1668. At the foot of the Iburg, the Kneipp adventure park with its wonderful water features and many walking paths provides exercise and refreshment
