Norderney is the second-largest East Frisian island and is located in the north-west of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) off the East Frisian coast. It is probably the most diverse of the East Frisian Islands. Even from the ferry, the urban silhouette of the town is a striking sight. The Kurtheater theatre, Bath House and Kurhotel spa hotel all offer outstanding examples of Gründerzeit-style architecture. Visitors can explore the many facets of Norderney wellness, whether learning about the island's spa history in the Bademuseum spa museum or experiencing it for themselves in the bade:haus, Germany’s largest thalasso spa, or on the beautiful sandy beach. The 14-kilometre beach with the finest sand is also perfect for a stroll. Some 80 kilometres of cycling and hiking paths meander through the dunes and along the tidal flats, a unique habitat listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
