Porcelain Painting

Porcelain, also known as ‘white gold’, is refined by means of decorative painting.  Porcelain painting is a handcraft that goes back hundreds of years, and in 2016 it was even designated intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. It can take several months to finish a single object, and flamboyant designs bestow a unique and impressive flair. Every piece bears the signature of the individual porcelain painter.

At the Porzellanmanufaktur Fürstenberg (Fürstenberg Porcelain Factory) museum, visitors can discover all there is to know about porcelain. In the visitors’ workshop, porcelain artists demonstrate how to spin a plate on the pottery wheel, cast a figurine or decorate the handle of a cup. Afterwards, visitors can try their luck at painting a piece of porcelain themselves.
