The Harz Mountains nature park stretches from Goslar
, with its UNESCO-protected evidence of centuries of cultural history related to mining and the wood industry, to the karst landscape of the southern Harz mountains.
At the heart of the nature park is the Harz Mountains National Park. Expansive beech forests and ancient spruce forests in the higher altitudes characterise the look of this wild mountain landscape, reinforced by rock formations, clear mountain streams, moors and the treeless mountain heath of the Brocken.
The many activities on offer in the Harz mountains invite you to explore the landscape. The nature park is criss-crossed by an extensive network of cycle paths, from mountain bike trails to road racing routes. The popular hiking region also offers a network of trails stretching 1,000 kilometres.

You can find details on the activities available in the Harz mountains at the tourist information office at the TorfHaus visitor centre, among others. The interactive exhibits also provide an insight into the flora and fauna of the Harz mountains. In recent years, this has once again also included the rare lynx. These can be observed in the lynx viewing enclosure near Bad Harz Mountainsburg.
