The source of the Este river is situated to the south of the municipality of Welle. Its mouth converges with the Elbe river in Cranz in the Altes Land region. The varied route between the municipalities of Hollenstedt and Moisburg makes this a fast-paced two-hour canoe trip. Rushing torrents and a few small rapids make this stretch of the route an adventure. For nature conservation reasons however, the only way to travel along this section of the Este during Ascension and Pentecost is on a kayak ride.
